Ladies and gentleman, damas y caballeros, it’s time for Wine O’ The Week! Though we waited til Wednesday to post, this gem of a bottle was consumed on Monday, because we couldn’t even. After an intense 15 minute workout, we called it and day and decided it was time for some libations. We headed up to Local Kitchen and Bar in Ferndale to take advantage of their weekly Monday deal of half off all wines by the bottle. The weather was turning sour, the fire was crackling and cozy, and red wine was just the answer to the Monday Blues. We chose a bottle from the Bierzo, León region of Spain: Descendientes de Jose Palacios, Pétalos, 2013. Not only is this a gorgeous bottle, but a gorgeous wine as well. Coming from northwestern Spain, Wine Spectator describes it as having “Expressive flavors of black cherry, currant, licorice, mineral and smoke mingle in this focused red. The texture is gentle but firm, with well-integrated tannins and racy acidity providing structure. A compact wine that shows good intensity. Drink now through 2023.” We couldn’t agree more. And we’d probably drink it after 2023. Heres to happy imbibing and to chasing those Monday Blues away with a bottle or four! ¡Salud!
